Building project report

Adesso Maternistraße, Dresden

With the conversion and the monument-compliant renovation of the former employment office, adesso has awakened a piece of architectural history from its deep sleep and transformed it into a contemporary working environment with great respect for the existing building. The glass partition walls and doors by Goldbach Kirchner fit stylistically into the building and ensure a diverse range of rooms.

The building at Maternistrasse 17 in Dresden looks back on an eventful history. The architect Karl Paul Andrae had it built between 1925 and 1926 in the New Objectivity style as the first employment office of the Weimar Republic. The functionality of the "public employment record" was the focus: visitors were channeled through the offices via two entrances and exits. During the GDR era, the building served the SED as a district party school. The users had it converted without considering the historical value of the existing building. It was only during the renovation that the original charm was now restored. One of the tenants is the listed software company adesso.

Transparent division
In addition to restoring the old charm, it was also about creating a modern working environment for up to a hundred employees on two floors. The open space concept is designed for teamwork by offering seating areas in addition to formal meeting rooms. At the same time, there is the option of working in a concentrated manner in separate offices. These different room situations are made possible by the T50 Loft partition system from Goldbach Kirchner. The single-pane glazing with variable division in matt black matches the existing lattice windows. The partition system has its design roots - just like the former employment office on Maternistrasse - in the Bauhaus design. The simple industrial look alludes to the style of Walter Gropius, who is said to have used the Dresden building as a model for his famous Dessau employment office. With its high sound insulation values of up to 40 decibels, the all-glass T50 Loft partition wall offers acoustic separation with full transparency. Daylight even reaches interior rooms and corridors. Double-leaf aluminum tubular frame doors T30/RS form the translucent fire protection barrier to the stairwell.

Sustainable construction
The meeting room with a wooden facade, planned as a room-in-room solution, is an eye-catcher. All-glass doors and windows from the T46 partition wall system from Goldbach Kirchner are installed in it. The green roof can be accessed from the second floor through an aluminum tubular frame door. The materials of the doors and partition walls can be separated, reused and recycled. This saves resources and contributes to the sustainability of the entire project. Stylish details such as the linoleum surfaces of the tables are a reference to the time when the building was built.

In December 2023, the IT service provider adesso SE moved into a new office on two floors with 1,700 square meters of office space in the listed building of the "public work certificate Dresden". The revitalization of the 1926 building created a modern working environment in the New Work concept with 100 workplaces in a historical context.
